Warm, sunny with gentle breeze - river very low. Still insect hatches and near perfect conditions with fish rising. First-half of day spent Euro-nymphing with great success up towards the rapids and channels from higher end. Latter part of day on dry-fly, with various takes off v. small March Browns, Adams, Peculiar and Iron Blu' Dun. Key to it seemed to be presentation - a right cast and drift produced a bite; a bad one did not - simples ! :) Also changing fly quite frequently to see what and how they were responding (CDCs produced nothing).

The river was very low (0.61) on the Erwood gauge so I left my salmon tackle at home and fished for trout instead. Surprisingly there were very few flies coming off so rises were few and far between, and I suspect they were actually grayling judging. I only fished a couple of hours but had two out-of-season grayling, both around 3/4lb-1lb and a small brownie. No salmon seen.

Fishing slow for most of the later afternoon that I fished. Took small trout early on and then nothing more. Fished tight line nymph in deep run and took a great Chubb, (first for me). Waited for mixed hatch to materialise, various mayflies, olives and a few Danica coming off but fish didn't move much. Late in evening, approximately 9.00pm a few fish started to rise consistently on the flats and I was able to pick off two of those on dry fly (modified F fly). But the rise didn't really ever get going despite apparently a good number of insects on the water. One trout taken on long cast to consistent riser was a real cracker. Very pleased with the evening. Not large numbers but wonderful trying to target active fish on a broad flat near the top of the beat. Really enjoyed it thank you.

4 trout best being around 14 inches. 5 Oos grayling. All returned.

First visit to this beat access excellent (parking in the layby). Wading out over the gravel manageable with caution with the low water as it is. Great day out as you get with many beats on the Wye. Will return.

Also a bright day with some cloud; generally some wind, with a few gusts. River very low again this early in the summer. Fish seen rising on the far side/bank. Cast a variety of klinks, para's, other dry flies in smaller sized to receive quick bites.

A couple of nice specimens and some very pretty trout, but nothing too sizeable. All fish safely returned to the river as usual.
