Lovely drive through the Wye valley, showing its autumnal colours.
Arrived at the river with a light mist still on the water.
Sun came up over the trees, and stayed for the day.
Trotted maggot was the method of choice.
Could not find a single grayling.
Trout throughout the beat. Stopped counting after 30+.

After a night of heavy rain, the river was high and tinged but still worth a few casts. Sinking line and a tungsten beaded salmon nymph didn't get snagged until it sank in the slacker water, so it was hard work. No fish seen but one decent brownie took the fly and at least put a bend in the rod. My plan was to fish Lady Alexanders Catch and down the end of the beat and then move to Goodrich Court for the afternoon. When I crossed the river at Ross the water looked like Brown Windsor soup and that was the end of the day's fishing. Yet another season ends without a salmon touched.

Bad timing on my part making the booking. The river was already up and dirty by the time I arrived with less than a foot of visibility. After an hour the heavens opened and put paid to any chance of a clearing river later in the day.
Lovely spot though and will certainly be back hopefully for a better day
