Sunny day with a few clouds and a light wind for the most part

Very few fish rising, did try a dry fly for a while but gave up quite quickly.

I then tried nymphs of varying weight, and then spiders, no takers. However, when using a bead head nymph I managed to hook a six inch trout on the swing. So I tried it again, and started getting regular takes on the swing. But they were vicious pulls and I was relying on them hooking themselves.

I guessed that this was because the fly was at a certain depth, so I tried suspending the nymph at different depths under an indicator, still no takes.

So the only way I could get a bite was to swing a nymph across, and then hope. I hooked several better fish this way, but in the end the best fish I managed to land was about 10 inches.

A really odd day, presenting a fly in the most unnatural way!

First time back to this lovely beat in about 5 years and great to see improvements in paths and access- good work.
As to the fishing , nasty downstream cold breeze meant very scarce fly life and two trout and 1 OOS Grayling.
Enjoyable afternoon though

Me and a buddy of mine (James) had a brilliant evening on this Stretch yesterday evening, spent about 3 hours testing this beat as it was our first time fishing it! it was fantastic! lots of variation in different types of waters, we did some European style Nymphing, and some usual dry fly fishing, and had three lovely Trout straight away! we hoped for a good hatch as the sun was going down but, nothing much going on with top surface action! can't wait to go back for round two!
