Arrived to discover I had packed the wrong rod; a 7ft three weight instead of the 10ft four weight so not in the best frame of mind thereafter. That's my excuse for a blank day. River level was 1' 10" at Llanstephan so was able to wade extensively in search of fish but as if to confirm it wasn't my day caught my right foot on a rock and all but removed the felt sole from my boot. Decided to to pack up early.

Tough day but enjoyable in lovely surroundings.the fish would not respond to float tactics so opted to ledger and had a bit of joy but compared to other beats not as prolific.

12 x grayling 10-15 inches, odd parr plus 2 x out of season trout, trotting and Tenkara. Once again, action stopped late afternoon as rain produced a rising and colouring river.

With the river at an acceptable level and the weather quite mild I don't know what I was doing wrong, if anything, today but I didn't find any fish other than a 10" brown trout that came to a red tag. Just one of those days I suppose.

We fished the Abernant beat in bad weather conditions...most of the time some 'mild to heavy' rain. We fished most of our time the Lady Alexanders pool. We enjoyed seeing a lot of salmon jumping about, but could only catch two moderate sized graylings on a weighted nymph in the main chanel. I had one bigger fish on the hook for about 20sec. but this fish came loose in the end. Probably a trout.
I also tried to wade the 'stone catch', but it felt to tricky to risk too much. The bank (left side) of the "Abernant stream" was difficult to walk, so I fished only the end of this part without any sign of a fish.
There was no surface activity the whole day so we only tried to have some luck by nymphing and a few times a wet fly.
Loved the day, but fishing was a challenge.

A lovely, warm and mainly cloudy day with little wind, and the LS guage at 12". Came expecting to fish nymphs until / if fish started to rise, but found PWs coming off at arrival and fish rising, presumably to emergent nymphs but also taking drifting duns. So I put on a small, pale HE Duck's Dun which has served me well over the last eight weeks and fished it most of the day. I tried variously-dressed tungsten beads in between times but there really wasn't much need as fish were rising somewhere, or at least looking up, until about 3.30 p.m. With such an early hatch, the more typical hatch from midday onwards into mid-afternoon really didn't appear - perhaps not too surprising. Most grayling were 10-12" with just three of 13-14" , but all most welcome. What a delight to be fishing an emerger for most of the day when we are almost into November. Fish also still feeding in the margins in quite shallow water. May the warm settled weather continue please! Finally A HUGE THANK YOU to the riparian owner for arranging for the bank-side clearance to be done in the upper half of the beat. I felt so much safer than two months ago making my way up the margins there and back! And the path now even goes as far as the Edw. Well done!

A lovely beat, there were a few fly hatching, but not enough to bring the Grayling up consistently , there were plenty of "occasional" risers but nothing that you could target. Probably spent to long after the rising fish, heavy nymphs produced the one fish of the day, although spiders did get a few plucks. Mid Wales is stunning at the moment.
