All fish small. Heavy falls of leaves made it a no go with the dry fly, caught on spiders. Met a nice salmon angler.

First time fishing the Wye today. Turned up to Abernant at 7am by 8am I was frozen. Around 10am I saw a fish show in Lady Alexander's which I hooked and quickly lost.. Est. 10lbs.
Around 3pm I went up to the Abernant Run, a bit hairy wading but again I was into a fish, just after it had shown. Gave a fantastic account of herself, a beautiful red hen which I quickly measured at 33 inches and safely returned, est. 13lbs.
I must say I was impressed with everything from the river, the access to the beat, fantastic fly water teeming with trout and just the general beauty of the Wye valley.
Both fish hooked on a size 5 salar cascade with a silver body and fast sink tip. Looking forward to 2015 with much anticipation.

A lovely day - generally quite sunny with a bit of cloud, and pretty calm apart from an intermittent pesky upstream wind, which didn't help presentation at times, but helped to get the leaf off the trees plus the bugs that come with them, so plenty of fish in the leaf and foam lanes. Water low at 5" on the Llanstephan guage. Some small olives and PWs came off in the morning then fewer in the afternoon, plus some needle flies and latterly a few caddis. Fish were rising from our somewhat late 10 a.m. start until a 6 p.m. finish when we had to drag ourselves away in spite of fish still rising. It should have been "grayling heaven" and indeed it was. Most of the grayling were in the familiar 8-10" class but four 12", two 13", one 14" and one 16", one and a half pounder, put in an appearance as well. All fish were taken off the top, mainly on small hare's ear and darkish olive emergers. We tried nymphs and spiders when the fish were not rising but failed to move anything, either in the pools, necks or the streamier water. The trout, the best of which was 12", were also taken off the top, as were a few graylets. A wonderful day all round!

Not the best start to the day, whilst traversing the path to the lower section I slipped and tumbled 25 feet down the bank, breaking my rod in the process!(lucky I had a spare). The water had a hint of colour and managed to catch several fish - grayling all 10 to 12" and biggest trout was about 1.75 pound - and to cap the day off, I fell over in 3 feet of water! Sometimes 1 wading stick is just not enough!

Low water and bright sun all day but still managed to take fish up to 12 inches throughout the day. Excellent fishing. I can not wait to return.

Water was very low, lots of cloud. Fished a dry fly all day and missed more fish than I caught. Biggest grayling was 15 inch all the way down to a little salmon par. Beautiful beat, beautiful river.
