A hard days fishing with few bites. Hadn't fished here for 2 years and there seems to be far fewer large fish around. Fished 3 usually productive swims but proved difficult in all. The chub came to feeder pellet tactics in the deeper swims well past the garden. The barbel came to rolled meat in the fast shallows at the start of the beat. Barbel was just over 8lbs.

Weather was overcast for the most part, light rain in the afternoon. Due to it being the weekend there were a lot of canoes and kayaks going past, for the most part canoeists where respectful but did have some that would come right into your swim. Method feeder filled with halibut pellet and a 10mm halibut dumbbell on the hair.

It’s been 4 years since my last visit to this beat , it should’ve been sooner , I forgot how great this place is ! With great parking and a stunning backdrop! Luckily we had the entire beat to ourselves so we tried to fish as much as possible, an early chub and barbel got us excited , and a cracking perch took our pellet , that’s a first for me !
Feeder fishing proved quite slow throughout the day , so switched to trotting which brought us a flurry of specimen chub , fantastic!
2 late barbel put the icing on the cake for what was a brilliant days fishing .

This venue is beautiful made more so by the National Trust property opposite.
We arrived at the Weir Garden swim and it looked great, very ‘fishy’. However if turned out to be a really tough day. Very few bites on a variety of methods, perhaps water and / or air temperature to blame (or dodgy angling!!?).
The barbel was a perfect specimen of just under 6lb, all chub were less than 2lb.
There are more productive beats on WUF, and the creation of more swims would be of huge benefit on this beat.

Nonetheless a lovely day.

Directions worked fine, and with a 4x4 the access was very easy all along the river bank to the whole stretch, and access to what I assume are the main spots was easy. There is what I assume is meant to be a stile further up-river but this is treacherous and one day is going to fall over and send someone down the bank with it; could really do with fixing. Apart from that, well maintained. Thanks for the access.

Water levels very low (0.16m at Ross). Bright and sunny and hot in the morning, rain from 1700 onwards. Fished from 0700 to 2000. Float fished on the gravel beach opposite the wall, and also tried spots above and below that in the faster and slower water respectively.

Steady bites throughout the day on a range of baits, but nothing extraordinary and no spot ever really took off.
Chub were not huge (biggest 3lb) and "others" were dace and a few perch, with some a decent size which were entertaining to catch.

A hard day - hot and sunny. Just fished the afternoon and evening. Two small chub for BT but HT’s chub was a PB 5lb 7oz. All on pellets; one small one trotting the pool on the bend and the others legering opposite the boat house.
