First day out since Lockdown and it was good to be back at Goodrich. The river was fining down and a bit higher than I would have liked, although wading was possible in places (with care). Caught two chub on the fly, the largest around 3.5 to 4lb. Not the salmon I was hoping for, but it saved a blank.

River was a foot too high to make fishing with a fly properly realistic.

Very cold (water at 5 °) and the water was a little high but most beats were fishable. No fish seen by me but my fellow angler managed to catch one from the Vanstone in the morning. The beat is very well maintained with steps into and from the beats making life easy. The maddox stream fished particularly well at this height and my second trip through was rewarded with a lively seatrout of about 4lbs.

Nothing caught - water still high, fast and coloured so wading was very limited to near the bank on upper beats.

A tough days’ fishing on a very low river (below its normal summer level). A couple of fish we’re showing in Vanstone, although one was almost certainly a resident, and neither were in a taking mood.
