Beautiful day. The river was slightly up from the previous few days but still crystal clear and the blue sky and sunshine made things tough. No sign of moving fish so I fished single nymphs under yarn. I managed 3 fish in a couple of hours but it was no picnic.

Fished the evening after a day of drizzle and rain.
Stunning beat, flanked by ancient oak trees and mossy banks.
Wading is challenging, mainly bedrock and some deep fast pools, be extremely careful, take a wading stick.
Had five fish, nothing big, lost another four. Klink, PTN etc... Saw a salmon, or a large trout leap and the tail of Quarry pool.
Fished until dark, but didn't make it to the top of the beat.
The perfect beat if you like it challenging and wild. Probably the most unspoiled fishing I have had in the UK.

Very quiet with few rises. Fish easily spooked and no luck with nymphs in faster water. Very picturesque.

Abundant insect life and lots of different species. Pale yellow mayflies hatching all afternoon. On the whole, difficult to spot what they were rising to thought did see several mayflies taken mainly close to the far bank.
Got 3 on nymphs: ptn and he.
Main entrance gate across from the lay-by a challenge: multi-knotted plastic string impossible to undo so it was a climb over and avoid barb wire job. Waders are expensive!

Tough fishing today - not much hatching or rising for most of the day, probably due to the sunshine. Although at least that got me to the riverbank - had spent the last three days in bed with a fever. Daytime fishing also wasn't helped much by a family wild camping on the far bank - on arrival at the bottom of the beat, found two boys returning from upstream on the far bank with a spinning rod. They had a break for tea then came back all along the far bank with the rest of the family and a gigantic dog, who they repeatedly yelled at to not charge across the river at me. Then they all jumped into Quarry pool for a swim, great... roll on the school holidays eh? The trout understandaby went down for a while having seen their first bear in several hundred years, but there was little fly-life at that point anyway. Once things calmed down a bit in the evening there was a bit of activity - some pale wateries and small spinners came out for a couple of hours. Could really have caught a couple more, but lost one big fish when the hook just came out after a spirited run, then lost another nice fish of c. 15" at the net which was entirely my fault due to tying a dodgy knot in my weakened state (don't usually do that!). Nice to finally get one off the top though and avoid the blank with a rise to a rusty spinner. Was hoping it would get even better towards dusk, but it then all died away completely as the temperature plummeted- think it got too cold. Worth waiting for the early evening flurry though, and a beautiful beat as always!
