Very quiet day, maybe the recent rain had put the fish down. I rose 3 to a dry but no takes. Had some limited interest on nymphs but nothing stuck. No fish to the net today!

River very low and a warm sunny day made fishing difficult. Fished from 9.00 to 19.00. Occasional mayfly and sulphur May coming off but fish not on them. Couldn’t tempt the odd riser (no regular risers) and had to resort to bugs to tempt all but one.

An interesting and varied section of river, although few fish showing during my visit. One thing worth noting, the walk down to the river is very over grown and difficult, especially with a made-up rod!

Easy to find, good parking but access to the river is a struggle through the undergrowth! 5 wbt caught and returned, all taken on nymphs. All around the 12" to 14" range, that's what the Usk does best. Prolific mixed hatch mid-afternoon, fish rising all over the lower part of the beat, we offered them everything in the fly box, but naturals quite rightly won the day.

Beautiful stretch of water with lots of interesting features. Plenty of fly life although no fish rising with any regularity. Cool northerly wind took the edge of the weather. Had several bumps from fish on nymphs and managed 1 lovely 1.5lb brown behind the downstream island on a green klinkhammer.
Sand Martin’s, dipper, Merganser with 17 ducklings and yellow wagtail seen.
Great afternoon and evening.
Access could do with a trim!
May have left a black box of flies somewhere if any kind soul manages to find them!

Booking Office note: If anyone does find the box, please ring us at 01874 712074 and we will help to re-home it.

SW breeze, heavy rain turning to showers with sunny intervals. Bank-side access was difficult upstream of car park. Eventually found a crossing place which could be safely waded at the top of the beat above the island; this, however, was difficult on my return after the river had risen by the end of the day. It might be an idea to indicate safe crossing places for anglers in the information about the beat.
Landed 7 trout and lost 4. Best fish was 14 inches and another of 13 inches. Others were good fish around 11 inches. Very few rises, though a steady hatch of various upwings - LB Olives, pale wateries and BWOs- during the day. Used small PTNs, GRHEs and PTNGH nymphs. Fished beside the island, opposite Glan-y-cafn and down-stream of Glan-y-cafn.
