Spent the first hour towards the bottom of the beat spooting and stalking fish. Managed to hook one of about a pound but didnt manage to land it. Rest of the fish all came to nymphs in the fast water by the island.

Bright sunshine, climbing to 11C in the early afternoon but a strong and cold wind coming straight downstream. 1' 10" on the Trostrey gauge and the water was 9.5C
Having seen the sunshine when I awoke, I was improperly dressed and felt the cold almost instantly, having to retreat and warm my hands regularly so I could still actually tie a fly on. I focused on the streamy water at the top end and there was a very short hatch around 1330-1340 which saw a couple of trout feeding on the surface. I took three on a homemade pheasant tail nymph with an oversized grey partridge hackle. Smallest was 8", largest about 15". All looked fit and fought well.

Bright sunny day and with no fish showing fished upstream nymphs up to top of beat. Picked up 1/2 doz nice trout including fish of 14 & 15” and dropped a few. Odd small upwing hatching but not enough to bring up fish. Moved to middle of beat and picked up more trout and a 6oz dace to nymphs. Afternoon was very slow. Odd fish rising on lower section and managed one on daddy but no real hatch and fish not interested in dries or nymphs. Serious tree fall/ log jam on right hand side of island. All fish returned.

A very nice piece of water, but down to its bare bones and seemingly devoid of fish and flylife today.

The river is still low obviously, and very little movement seen for most of the bright evening. A small hatch brought some fish to the surface later in the evening by which point it was time to go home. 1 small brownine caught on a black klinkhammer. A very nice spot to spend time, looking forward fishing it under better conditions in the future.
