A lot of water in the river today with levels considerably above what was reported last week. They must have opened up the dams!!! No fish seen or caught.

A short morning session produced the quality fishing this beat is known for. All caught contact nymphing before the gusty wind kicked in at noon. Best Grayling 17” and Trout 16”, lost a brute of a trout after a short and dramatic fight at the head of one of the pools.

Very hot and quite low, but wonderful surroundings even so! Beaded PTN and GRHE fished through the deeper heads of pools. The fish caught were in good condition and very lively. One Grayling estimated at 2.5 lbs; beautiful fish.

5#~6# line and rod with an olive green nymph.
( sorry I was 6 days early, but I was set up for trout).

2 other rods were first time fly fishers ( years as course fishermen ) well and truly converted . Loved it and are now “hooked”

Lovely stretch of water.
Conditions : mostly bright sunny conditions, but thankfully overcast at times.
: water clear.

Definitely use you again, booking was easy with a very friendly member of staff.

Thank you

Been a while for various reasons that I haven't been back here but was super to be back! Really lovely and as well kept as ever. Struggled though to find the fish today (must admit I wasn't trying too hard though just soaking it all up and was bright and hot too!) with no fly coming off etc., no fish moving and even those shady far bank lies didn't have the fish nibbling on terrestrial stuff today. Penalanole pool was really quiet too.

So it was just the one good fish and two more good ones bounced off. One in particular was a proper lump!
Next time then hopefully. The streamy runs near the start of the beat in the evening is where I had (or lost!) these. A word of advice though, the wading on any of the rocks is more than interesting at the moment . Despite very good quality felt sole boots and aluminium cleats I was doing a good take on Torvill and Dean!!

A day of mixed weather… started off overcast and chilly but very warm and bright in the afternoon once the sun came out … but cold again once the sun went off the water and the breeze returned to kill off any hope of an evening rise.

The river is low and needs rain. None in forecast though… There was a lot of fly life around when we arrived although not immediately apparent what it was… but the trout were very happy and were locked on, feeding voraciously on something at the surface … but we could not work out what! Although it never really felt like we cracked that puzzle 11 came to hand including 3 in the 18-20 inch bracket … stunning fish all to the usual size 14 grey parachute that can imitate most things. As many again were lost including another clonker. In the calmer water it really was sight fishing … the fish could be seen and their behaviour observed, which meant every refusal was revealed…. Fascinating!

A few grayling seen too … no doubt they will be joining the fun before too long. The day concluded with a nice chat with the couple staying in the railway wagon at the caravan park … fellow fisherfolk, left them with some encouraging words and a successful fly, hope they have a good time the next day.

11 Trout, 2 Grayling
