One strong pull from what might have been a salmon, although owner Sean who was with me at the time said it was likely to have been a big trout. Some smaller trout managed to attack the salmon fly despite all the leaves in the water. Otherwise no salmon seen or encountered. That was more than compensated for by some brilliant spey-casting tuition and tips about the beat (and many other fishing matters) from Sean.

First visit to Craig Lyn and indeed the Wye as a whole. Very nice beat with easy parking and access from the car park in the caravan park. The water was clear but slightly up due to overnight rain with plenty of good looking water to fish through. Reasonable number of upwings and stoneflies coming off when the sun was out but only saw a couple of rises all day. Had a brief go with fishing the dry blind but didn't get a response. Most productive method was nymphing with a small shrimp on the dropper and a tungsten beaded nymph on the dropper Euro nymphing style. Didn't catch a huge number of Grayling but half a dozen of those that I did were certainly over a 1lb with the best probably around the 1.75lbs mark. A word of warning though, be very careful when wading as large parts of the riverbed are bedrock can be very slippy! Will certainly return at some point as it was a very enjoyable beat!

Very wet and blustery weather most of the day. Glad I had remembered my wading jacket and invested in some new chest waders. On the upper section again. A beautiful trout took a size 18 ptn but no sign of the intended grayling today. I look forward to returning sometime in the future.

On the upper section of this lovely beat. So well maintained and accessible. As for the fishing I struggled to locate them today with just two rises to my soft hackle dry producing two grayling. Nothing on various nymphs or spiders. Great to be back again after so long.

Water was coloured first thing but cleared throughout the day. Started French nymphing, pink tags and Duracells but the trout were having all of it early, all were kept wet and released ranging from fingerlings to one just sub 2lbs I guess.

I changed out to dries early morning, no action whatsoever. Until just before close out on light at the end of the day, took two grayling on a red tag dry fly and blue dun. Both in faster water than I would expect between the white water and the foam lines below rapids. I couldn’t figure them all day so assuming they are all grouped up and holding.
