Fished with some friends in two sessions, catch return is for my fish only. Nasty and chill downstream breeze for much of the day seemed to keep the fish down. Very little steady surface activity. We returned later in the evening and still not much happening on the top. Took some fish searching the far bank with dries and nymphs which produced some fish. Very late in the evening, close to 9.30 onwards the wind dropped some of the time and there were a reasonable number of rising fish, although feeding wasn't sustained and difficult to target. Took a few on dries cast to rising fish in the last of the evening, close to in the dark.

The weather had drastically changed from the previous day, dropping to about 17 degrees from the mid 20s 24 hours earlier. The river was in very clear but seemed still a bit above normal summer levels. Judging by the water marks on the rocks it was dropping throughout the day.

Started at the top end of the beat but nothing was moving, which as it turned out would be a theme for the day. Despite a chat with the owners who were very helpful in pointing us towards the right places by 19:00 dad had managed our only fish, a 3 inch trout down at the bottom of the beat.

We wondered back up towards the top and were contemplating whether to call it a day but there were a few fish stating to show again, with plenty of fly life about.

Dad managed one more and four for me before the end of the day including a 22/23 inch trout in perfect condition from the tail of one of the pools from under the tree line. All released.

Finished about 20:30 when everything went quiet and the air temperature started to drop. Thanks very much!

An excellent days fishing in perfect conditions, I only managed to get there early afternoon and started catching from the word go. Most of the fish were caught in the middle stretch on small dries. Biggest being a trout of 9"

Can't wait to return!!

Nothing doing on the nymph, but I eventually got three good trout of 14-15 inches, after much changing of fly, on a size 16 Comparadun (tiny yellow stonefly emergers?) and size 14 Adams in the evening, when there was a fair rise. No grayling - wonder why...
