Arrived after a large fry up in the café in the garage up the road about 2.30pm. Fished the deep gutters, around any deep fast water. No salmon seen but picked up four trout, one grayling and a good pike of easily 13 pounds, caught by Mick Pritch. Very few rises and what was seen seemed to be smutting on gnats. Saw a lot of coch-y-bonddu beatles late on so worth having a few patterns handy in the next week. Tight lines.

My first time on the Wye. A lovely beat. A little low. Quite tricky wading, easier once I'd fashioned a Hazel staff. I was determined to catch today. No fishing showing on the surface at all so I fished various nymphs in every likely looking piece of water. My persistence was rewarded with three Brown Trout, the largest about 45 cm / 750g A personal best. Went home very happy. Thanks.

River low and clear ,weather dry & mostly overcast, pleasantly warm. Few fish rising but couldn't tempt them, had the smallest grayling I've ever seen on a black GH nymph.
Plusses: saw dippers, small pearl bordered fritillaries and red kites.
Minusses: saw a mink, a goosander and a very thin lamb which appeared to have a very bad or broken back leg.

All fish kept in water and all released. Garry: 5 wbt from 4oz to 1lbs; Mark: 1 wbt 1/2lbs and one grayling 1lbs; Jim: 3 wbt from 4oz to 1 1/4lbs and grayling 1 1/2lbs - 2lbs.
Water levels had risen overnight Tuesday but still running clear and dropped back Thursday. All 3 anglers felt this beautiful stretch of the river was not promoted by local hostelries and the key points of contact in Rhayader. This stretch of the river has so many features from rapids to deep pools with magnificent surrounding countryside. Lovely just to be on the river although very pleasurable to hook into a wild brown trout or grayling.
