Weather overcast and rather muggy. Some early rainfall. Occasional strong breeze, but generally light S Westerly all day. Levels continuing to drop slightly and clearing in terms of colour. Generally. conditions were very good and promised a great deal. Bankside access not particularly easy, but then, it is early season. Would recommend spike and rope to assist.
Arrived at 6.30 am, and one peg automatically began producing. Simple ledger and pellet, put two good sized Barbel {8.5 and 7+} on bank in 20 minutes. 0ver the course of the next two hours, two further Barbel were added, of similar stamp. and one good fish missed through thrown hook. A great morning's angling. Other pegs produced little. A few taps. but no big takes.
In the afternoon, the one peg continued to regularly deliver, with two double figure Barbel being banked, and the Chub (all between 1,5 and 4.5 ) starting to feature. Other methods (stick float and touch ledgering were tried) and all proved successful. A great day's sport in all. but you really had to be on the correct stretch,. Look for slightly pacier water.
All fish caught were in superb condition and really fought well. Whatever method you employ, you need to ensure good 12lb mainline is being used.
Nice to finally meet Adam, who was friendly. helpful and informative. Sorry about the parking mix-up! It won't happen again.
