1st time on this beat and would deffinatly go back. Beautiful area and plenty of swims to fish. Fish caught throughout the day on feeder and pellets and from several different swims. A lot of fish in the 1 to 2lb bracket which bodes well for the future.

Evening was quite eventful as we had to carry out some livestock rescue. 2 of us were below the island when we noticed one of the Hereford calves from the field stood in the channel between the bank and island, no idea how it got there.
It then tried to walk towards the island but got swept off it's feet and was heading off down river. It's head went under a couple of times but fortunately the current and a bit of paddling from the calf brought it close enough to get a landing net over it. We then managed to get it a bit further down so we could grab it and drag it out. It weighed a ton, so while me and my mate lay there wet through and out of breath, the calf ran to it's mum. Lucky for the calf that we were there!

Very nice beat with the added advantage of vehicle access along most of bank. Just a-shame that the drive to the 5 possible swims passes by 3/4 of the bank side totally overgrown and only accessible by mountain goats .On that note we do realise this is down to the landowners to address and not W&U . Fish caught feeder and various pellet Boilie combos . Bottom end faster water shallows offers lots of nursery stamp fish under your feet and occasional better ones (9lb10oz) and the hilarious spectacle of The Day Trip Canoeists capsizing as they exit rapids! Priceless and didn’t put the fish off.

Excellent fishing however I would agree with previous comments about the access and swims, a shame not to be able to fish a lot of its nice looking swims. 3 fish over 10lbs today between us which was incredible, one of which topped 12lb.
All to ledgered pellet and ova bags

A very enjoyable day getting to know a new beat. There are some really nice looking swims and although I’m generally not shy of wading through brambles and creating swims, I have to agree with previous posters, that some of the famous pools are simply unfishable. Perhaps this is because they aren’t in regular use, so even if they’re cleared, they quickly become overgrown again. Some of the more easily accessed swims may also be unavailable if an angler is on the opppsote bank.

So I stayed in the few well-used swims and caught several small barbel (8-10ins) and one decent one (7lb) in the island swim and then 3 more (3-5lbs) to finish the afternoon in a calmer swim further upstream.

Thanks WUF for a great day.

First trip to this particular beat and on arrival we had a good walk of the river. River was slightly up in level and a nice bit of colour to it. slightly disappointed on swim options, most having sheer drops into the river hidden beneath the vegetation and lower down swims have only been made by the cattle walking to rivers edge. We both settled in one swim for the day and had a good session catching 6 barbel, biggest being 9lb 1oz and 2 chub to 4lb. Lots of canoes today most respecting us and moving across the river. Will hopefully be back again soon to get amongst the barbel. Thanks WUF.

Note: The track leading down to the rivers edge / parking is very steep.
