Half day, arrived about 4pm and walked the beat in hot, humid sunshine, nothing much happening but by the time I started fishing a 5pm the river was starting to come alive.
Fishing dries I took 3 trout, missed a similar number and lost a very good fish which took a CDC Yellow May Dun. It was very difficult to drag myself away from the river and plenty of rising trout at about 9:30, a lovely evening with plenty of fly life noted.

Bright warm sunny morning with a few flies hatching. More fish rising after noon but small and very localised. Caught on DHE. Start of heavy rain and thunder ended session at 2pm. River getting low and needed some extra water

Very little activity despite some minor fly hatches. We had to leave at 1900 so may have missed a final show! Beautiful stretch of river.

One of my favourite days fishing - when I caught nothing! Great river, and 100’s of rising trout - just couldn’t work out what they were feeding on. Tried 4 nymphs and half a dozen dry flies- popping right onto rising trout, big with no result. Had a couple of rises and tugs, just no real connections. Will definitely return, and hope to discover the secret next time.

Finally the weather has changed and today started wet an grey but what a difference it made to the river, flies of all varieties coming off the water and plenty of fish rising to them, a fly fishers dream. However the dream soon turned to a bit of a nightmare as I spent over three hours targeting the same big fish rising freely in a difficult part of the river, I gave that fish my best shot but in the end had to admit defeat and move on.
The rest of the day was very pleasant indeed taking 9 fish between us, one of which was a very nice fish indeed.
The day ended much as it started when I decided to target another good fish taking yellow May Duns off the surface, this time I had three chances but somehow missed them all! Again I had to admit defeat and head to the chip shop...I wonder if golf would be easier?
A lovely day with most fish falling to dries, thank you WUF.

Cold, misty start 11' rising to 21' when mist cleared. We found scores of small spent flies in the slack water, some Gnats some Olives. These are difficult to represent artificially and the trout were unimpressed with most offerings. Most fish were 0.5lbs to 0.75lbs, except for a 1.5lb trout from the rapids on a bead-head nymph, and at 6pm a trout of 2.5lbs on a small dry March Brown from the tail of Chain Pool.

River low and very clear. Clouds of Black Gnats and Sedges, with many rising fish, how ever, they were fixated on something, which we later found out were spent flies, possibly BWO's as they were small with mauve wings. With a combination of very small dry flies and nymphs, we caught 6 fish, best 2lbs 1.25lbs. In Chain Pool we noted a female Goosander with a flotilla of nine chicks ! ! !

Struggled upstream with headwind. No joy with dries , emergers , nymphs. Downstream worked better with spiders. Two trout caught of which one c 1lb or so . Enjoyed the day - beautiful scenery, birds singing.....
