A beautiful beat and what should have been an ideal day. The weather conditions were good and there is plenty of water which you can access. A few flies were coming off but there was no sign of a rise. A blank day for me.

Having been washed off this beat 2 weeks ago, I returned on the warmest, sunniest day of the Easter weekend to find the river in fine fettle with a few LDOs in the air and the occasional rising fish. They were the only fish I saw. Despite trying various techniques I didn't touch a fish, although a long standing angler on the other bank had several from tight on the bottom.

Wild and windy day. Cold northeast wind, blowing downstream, with rain in afternoon did not make for ideal conditions. Sparse and short-lived hatch of LDOs and a few stoneflies in the mid afternoon. Very few fish seen rising. The beat is attractive and more than adequate for a days fishing, should conditions provide the opportunity to fish a dry fly or nymph. 2 fish caught, one 2lbs, but a little thin and the other more modest. Also hooked a fresh salmon of about 8lbs, which shook the hook after about 5 minutes. A moment of excitement on a 5 weight rod!

Access very difficult ...wind hard and sadly no fish...still better than a day in the office though!

Beautiful day in lovely setting, though may have been too bright for the fish. Hooked 2 wbt late in the afternoon, brought one to the net and released.

A very beautiful location and stretch of the Usk and a perfect Spring day - except for the lack of fish. Tried just about everything - dry, nymph, NZ style - but very quiet on the BT front. A nil return.
Challenged two caneoists - the water level being way below the gauge - who were apologetic, carried on and sped downstream.

Rose 2 but failed to hook them. Very few risers - lot of water inaccessible on account of steep banks.

Minimal olive hatch. No March Brown or Grannom despite good conditions.

1 brown trout ~ 10 oz on a dry grey duster. Very few fish moving and not much in the way of insects just a few large olives and a single march brown. The wheat fields which come right down to the rivers edge were being sprayed at the time so I wonder whether this had anything to do with the lack of insects and activity. A local who was fishing on the opposite side of the river also only caught 1 fish on a partridge and orange he said this part of the river didnt get much in the way of March brown or Grannom hatches - is this true? I talked to someone in fishtec who said there had been a really large hatch of march browns on the Breconshire fishery a couple of days before and this was fishing well. Made me wonder if trout migrate up and down the river following hatches. Would be useful if the beat map had the pool names marked on it. I think it goes bridge pool, stone pool, chain pool, blue pool but not sure.
This is a fairly featureless bit of river with long slow pools and short fast sections in between. It has some nice long glides which could provide some nice dry fly fishing if there was a decent hatch. Maybe this part of the river is better later in the year.

First time on this beat, missed the turning to the House twice! The sign mentioned on the beat directions is almost all covered by greenery now.
3 WBT caught, a good 5-6 missed or lost. Best fish was about 1.5lb at least and gave a great account of itself. Nice mix of water, near the top of the beat is where I had all my success. Not much of a hatch, there was a brief flurry of olives and the trout switched on and that's when I had all my fish. All fish caught on bead headed nymphs although did have two offers to the dry fly. A cracking day once again, thanks to WUF.
