A good day on the river and friendly advice from Charlie at the beat. The grayling, at 1/4lb and 3/4lb were taken on Goldhead hares ear nymph and the WBT taken on mixture of dry fly and nymph. Largest WBT about 1lb and 2 other smaller ones. All fish returned to water. A good beat which we will return.

River was a nice height, slight colour. Absolutely no rising fish. This beat has always produced fish for me. Perhaps the cormorant and mergansers I saw there last year had done their work. Managed one grayling about 1lb and another smaller fish, all on small red sedge floater. A hatch of needle flies. Even the angler trotting on the opposite bank could only catch small fish. A pity the water in the first field is impossible to access because of bush growth and a barbed wire fence. Still, a very peaceful spot with easy parking. Tight lines to all.

Beautiful location with relatively easy wading on gravel bottom and low water. However, cold wind meant that there was little fly life and action on the river.

Found Cefnllysgwynne hard going today. Wanted slow and clear but river high and coloured after overnight downpours. Hooked into three fish and only one to hand. These were all got on the dink bit of a klink and dink, which in this case was a dark #16 gold head nymph.

Fished a beaded nymph with floating line. The river was clear but access to the water at parts was impractical with high banks & vegetation. That said, from the booking with u&w,f through to some great fishing, it made my holiday.
Thank you.

This is a great beat and very long however there are sections with difficult (impossible) access due to high banks and thick vegetation.
Really sunny day and water level was fairly low but there was still plenty of variety to fish and experiemnet with different techniques. Saw fish about but not many and noticed signs of otter activity.
Managed to tempt a WBT of well over a 1lb within 10 minutes of arriving. Promising start, however that was it for 4 hours. Managed another much smaller trout and a good grayling in the afternoon. No serious afternoon rise unfortunately but much fly-life in the evening with the fishing rising nicely. Problem was the vast variety of flies and I just couldn't match the hatch. Great day though and Charlie, the owner, was very welcoming.

Caught on nymph. No hatches and very little fish rises or movement seen. Overcast, the promised sun not showing until we left the river. Long beat with very good stretches to fish.

River clear and quite low. Slightly overcast with some light drizzle. 3 rods fishing 3 methods - dry fly, Duo and nymphs on a French leader. Single dry fly accounting for 7 trout around the 25 to 30cm mark.
2 to Duo, 1 to upstream nymph. Countless Salmon parr. All fish returned. Good to see a few Mayfly come off but fish were not particularly interested.
A difficult day and a bit of a puzzle. Conditions appeared to be ideal for a 20 fish a piece day but not to be. We'd not fished this beat in Summer before... Maybe this is more of a winter grayling venue? It's a fabulous stretch of river nonetheless.

River was high which made wading quite difficult for 3 old guys, so we could not cover all the water. Caught one small wild brownie. Beautiful peaceful beat and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. Thank you again to Alyson and the Wye and Usk Foundation.
