River too high to wade - it was showing just over a metre at Climery. We couldn't see any features to cast to and the water pulled our nymphs along at a merry rate so no fish. My son got a new fly rod and reel for Christmas and he was desperate to try them out no matter what the conditions so we took a bit of a punt on the water levels. We met the very friendly Dai who kindly lent us a long-handled landing net as we had to fish from the banks. Unfortunately it stayed unused. The Irfon is a beatiful stretch of river and we'll definitely return when levels are a bit more sensible.

Superb beat. All the graylings were big (40 cm an +). Nymph and dry fly fishing.

A very beautiful place and very friendly people. Nice day weather and water ok. Flyfishing with dry flies (CDC olives 18) the biggest grayling 48cm the smallest 38cm. The brown trout 50cm.

River falling and clear with peaty tinge. Easy to wade across but felt/studs essential. Plenty of fly life but only a very occasional rise. Two herons. I have seen the Irfon very low in recent years and suspect that fish quality has to reflect this. Some lovely fishy spots - friendly farmer, as I left, suggested the gutters.........Fished a variety of fly combinations but nothing today. Lovely sunny day and fee worth a quiet riverside walk.

Totally blank day. Bright and sunny but a chilly downstream wing blowing for most of the time. Saw only 2 or 3 fish rise. First time I've fished here with so little success and seen so little activity. Scenery as beautiful as ever though!

The river was running a little high and coloured but was still fishable. I came back to my car to find a fishing diary on my windscreen with a request to comment and an invite for coffee. A nice end to a great day.

3 Trout

The river was low and very clear, the fish were very shy. Didn't see any decent size trout. Caught a few par, a small trout, 2 grayling on buzzer in the top pool. Lovely stretch of river, good access, parking, easy wading. Thanks.

No fish but nice beat.

A disappointing trip - not a rise seen all day. Plenty of insect life but nothing taking either the dry or the nymph other than a 6" oos grayling. Some compensation from the surroundings of this beautiful beat including a close up meeting with an otter.
