Fishing was very slow. Seems to deteriorate each year.
Lots of silkweed coming down the river and catching on the line. In over 20 years of fishing the Wye I have never seen silkweed like that. Can only put it down to the dry summer combined with pollution.
The Wye is a shadow of what it used to be.

River low, intermittent showers. We all fished with halibut paste and swim feeders from 9.00-18.00 but hardly even had a knock. Lots of silkweed.

I only had a limited time on the river. I'm a warden at Biblins campsite and it was very busy that day. The barbel (about 8lbs) was caught at first light on luncheon meat. It didn't present the normal barbel fight and, when landed, appeared to have a white fungus on its back near the dorsal fin. It took ages to recover even though it had been a short fight. Apologies I forgot to photograph the fungus
Both Chub were a decent size and did fight as expected. However they also looked drab and in less than good condition. I also caught two eels.
One Chub and both eels were caught in the evening.
I have to say the amount of algae in the river was a real problem. I lost three feeders and every chuck had to be cleaned off when I reeled in. The river is very low which just revealed how covered in algae every pebble is.

Nil return but only short period of fishing due to late arrival. River very low and in very poor condition. Lots of algae constantly covering feeder and hook length.
