8 x trout 6-10 inches, size 18 Williams Favourite. A day of small things with just a few fish looking up to midges. I only fished the morning. Some maintenance is due on this beat from the management come the winter - branches are meeting overhead in some places.

Arrived at the Lyepole beat to find the water slightly higher than normal and fairly chocolatey. Didn't see a single fish rise all day despite abundant fly life but had a decent day on silver and bronze beaded pheasant tail nymphs with a french nymph setup and a klink and dink. We had 10 Grayling and 6 Trout between us. Biggest being a Grayling approx 1lb. Very enjoyable day.

Arrived at the river to find it a little coloured but seemed fine to fish. Day was hot and humid after heavy rain on the Sunday. Started well with a nice trout on the 3rd cast and then continued with fish being taken slowly and steadily throughout the day. Ended up with 7 brown trout and 2 grayling all on French leader and PTNs. Some fly life seen but no fish rising.

Got to the beat c 11:00. Weather mostly rain until after lunch and cold at around 11C. No sign of fly life until about 14:30. Only saw one fish rising to a fly which I couldn’t identify. A couple of small mayfly about 15:30 which the fish seemed to ignore. Left about 15:30 when it was beginning to warm up a little. All that said, a decent day on what looks like a really nice beat on a better day. Took both fish on a GHPTN under a green Klink.

Two 6" trout and 1 Grayling below the bridge during the morning, one 12" trout and more grayling upstream during the afternoon. A few mayfly appearing but the fish were not switching on to them, one fish caught on a dry fly all the others to nymphs. Finished fishing a 15:00 so probably missed some late afternoon / evening hatches. (there were lots of hatches during the day but hardly any rising fish. I'm finding it impossible to avoid catching grayling on all Lugg beats this year, changing fly, technique and location doesn't seem to make a difference. I don't remember a previous year when, at this point in the season, they were so prolific. I also caught a couple of what i think were Salmon Parr.
