A difficult day. The water was a lot higher and flowing faster than expected from the image on the Lugg webcam. This was the third time visiting Lyepole and some of the pools and likely fishing spots had disappeared under the increased water flow. The fish caught fell to a variety of heavily weighted nymphs fished at relatively short range on long leaders.

TP(Woodbridge) & MB(North Shields) had an enjoyable days fishing in glorious surroundings at Lyepole. TP had 14 Grayling to 11ins on French Nymph tactics and MB had 12 Grayling to 11ins and 1 nice OOS Trout. 10 of the Grayling came to Dry fly. No Otter remains seen but both saw an otter in different pools. We will be back next year!!

Well bowled up at the lovely Lyepole beat at just gone ten , overcast , slight breeze and mild . . . . Walked down to the beat start , noticed that someone was at the cottage , managed to see the lady there and she said it wasn't a problem if I fished the section in front of the cottage , as they were heading out for the day . . . . That was a good start , and it just got better !!!!!!!

Rigged up my ten foot three weight , French nymphing outfit , seemed unwealdy after fishing my six foot two weight all summer on the wild streams , but soon settled into things , two tungsten nymphs , and did change several times , grayling didn't seem that fussy to be honest , gammurus pattern and pink shrimp patterns seemed the favourite , and the sizes varied from four up to twelve inches , great fun , and nice to get back into the swing of French nymphing tactics . . . .

Fish seemed fairly spread out , being at the head and tails of pools , and interestingly in some of the skinny water too , smashing the point nymph with real gusto !!!! Fish seemed to start rising about oneish , so at the cottage pool , I did change to the duo , Parachute Adams and small olive nymph , hitting the Adams hard and a varied size of fish in that pool too , from six to ten inches , superb . . . Four to hand in that pool , hectic sport , nearly a fish on every cast !!!!

Half way up the beat I saw something odd in the water , and it turned out to be a leg of an otter , very strange , and it looked fairly fresh too !!!! Most odd . . . .

A very enjoyable five hours sport , twenty two gorgeous grayling to hand , no brownies at all , shall head back soon , possibly next Monday !!!!! Spot on . . . . . . . .

A strange sort of day. With the river still at low summer level, I thought that it might be difficult. So it proved; up river de bonne heure but, runs that you would put your house on failing to produce (or producing very little). Conscious that the beat was fished yesterday, I wondered if that was the problem (equally conscious that the problem could be the thing on the blunt end of the rod). Nay bother, in turn, two fairly non descript pieces of water just below the weir produced half a dozen Grayling a piece. More or less consecutive casts; mostly fish in the 8-10 inch bracket, but including a couple at 12-14 inches. All on a PTN. No surface activity at this stage but, mid morning, with the sun overhead, spasmodic rises. Switched to a dry; but this only resulted in a run of micro Grayling

Less productive downstream in the afternoon; where, with the river so low, there is not a fat lot to go at

My "other" was a Minnow - caught fair and square on a Size 14 Endrick Spider - and only landed after a titanic struggle

Two out of season trout - about 10 and 12 oz. One on dry fly and one on nymph. Two grayling, each about 6oz - both nymph.
Warm sunny day but only a few fly around, and only the very odd sporadic rise.
Very beautiful valley.

Fished from 8am till 4.
Lovely day on a great beat.
All grayling between 3 and 10 inches, 20 of them only about 3 inches all from same pool, trout approx 6 inches.
All fish but 1 to small ptn fished duo below a klinkhammer, which accounted for the trout.
Spoke to someone staying in the cottage and they told me that they had seen mink hounds on the river. There was certainly evidence of dogs everywhere.

3 x trout 10-13 inches, 10 x grayling 10-14 inches, Pink Shrimp, Tungsten Hare's Ear, F-Fly. First a cold mist, then a glorious sunny autumn day in what must be our loveliest valley. The fishing was initially rather slow (I started with nymphs due to the cold morning) but perked up when I switched to dry fly mid-afternoon. I met my friend the resident otter twice.

Amazing beat, simply stunning venue. Nothing to show for the efforts apart from a few missed opportunities.
