I'm new to trout fishing and this was my first trip to a river to fish for them. Had a enjoyable day and I missed more chances than I took, but I learned loads. Lovely stretch of river, I'll definitely be back.

Sunny start - cloudy and humid pm brought on a hatch of Olive Dun and then later a more reddy brown (possibly Claret Dunn). Only fished dry flies and 2 trout taken using Paradun Light Olive Millikins. Heavy rain stopped play and brought out a very busy Otter to put on a show as I was packing up. Beautiful spot.

Great afternoon on a beautifully secluded beat. The water was slightly brown from rain the day before but was very fishable.
I fished a mixture of duo, dry and a heavy pair of nymphs which caught the grayling one of which was 12 inches. I also had 6 trout all in the ten inch range. My duo method is a light nymph on the point with a dry dropper, and had fish on either. I also had a couple of fish on a dry fly only set up. All fish quickly and safely returned. All in all a very pleasant afternoon after some confusion with the directions supplied. Where WUF say to turn off at the Lye signpost. The sign read Upper Lye also the wood at the bottom is called Sned wood and not Sarn wood as informed. If you're giving directions WUF please make sure there correct as The combined mistakes caused a lot of confusion to someone not familiar to the area.

WUF note: We endeavour to keep all our maps and descriptions up to date as best we can, but sometimes with the number of beats we manage one or two can slip through. We apologise for the confusion caused and have amended the notes appropriately. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

None caught, only a couple of takes: grayling on bead head nymph. Weather almost perfect and conditions were good, although the river was still a little cloudy. Fish began to rise late morning following a reasonable hatch. Plenty of sign of otters (footprints) but unfortunately did not see one. Beautiful part of Herefordshire - will certainly return.

Looking back through the catch returns for this beat, I realised it was over four years since I had fished it. Back then I had a cold, blank day but I'm pleased to say it was a little better this time. But only a little. The only fish I saw all day were those I caught. Only one small grayling came to a size 16 weighted nymph in the morning, so I changed tactics and fished deeper in the afternoon. This was more productive with three more grayling and one trout to show for my efforts.
The wind and cloud kept it chilly for most of the day and the river was carrying a bit of colour which I certainly wasn't expecting after such a dry week. I'm sure when I first started fishing here some years ago, I would expect to take more trout than grayling in a day. Looking through the catch returns, the pattern seems to have reversed in recent years - is this just my imagination or has something changed? Either way, it's still a beautiful place to spend a day and well worth another go later in the season. Maybe I'll meet more trout then.

River still quite coloured from the rain fallen the previous days; czech nymphing for a couple of hours anyway, but no success at all. I will be back on this beat later in the season, it is extremely beautiful.
