A few mayfly about but almost zero interest from the fish.

I found this stretch to be very overgrown and difficult to wade for a 75 year old. There were a few mayfly about and some fish were rising. Caught one small trout and lost a couple of others, all on a mayfly emerger pattern.

Warm sunny day with few small insect hatches in the afternoon, but no rises. Air and water temperature still cool. 2 WBT taken on nymph (dark olive pheasant tail), plus 1 missed take. Wet-fly trio on droppers with nymph point.

NOTE: Easy access to river, but difficult wading/walking along beat - overgrown with thorns (risk to tear waders).

Only one angler fished today. Water carrying only slight colour after recent rain. Good access to lower half of the beat but ran out of time exploring top half. Lots of fallen trees making progress up the stream difficult in places.
8 wbt on gold bead nymph and 2 parachute adams, with a couple of long range releases and a few missed splashy rises. 4 fish in the 10-11 inch range with the rest around 6 inches. Great fun on the 4wt 6.5 ft rod.

Well, he's still annoying W.H. from Craven arms- 3 trout to my one and some takes. Fish to 10", all returned. Tricky fishing- you have to be on your toes to keep your flies out of the shrubbery. Great fun fishing the pools: scorching 25'c today, bright sun and low water. Cold cider, beer and Steven Bull's ham pies from Much Marcle produce market did go a long way to reviving us at bate time. Bugs about (saw a chaffinchy thing take a medium size up wing fly on the wing). Only a few rises though. Don't be dismayed by access when you first arrive- through the gate by the lay-by for the downriver section, follow the hedge and towards the mill and through the paddock, you will find new styles and low gates. To get to the top half, we went back to the lay-by and through the gate a bit further along the road- styles are in view.
