Beat access track in description now incorrect, no access vehicle access possible via the track (overgrown and blocked by a massive boulder halfway down) so a walk of about 1/2 mile to the downstream limit, but this is in need of some maintenance for walking with rods setup before long as the trees and vegetation are closing in. Banks are also overgrown but two of the cribs, fancy and bakers are just about accessible via metal handrail/steps but bakers steps are treacherous as just strips of rusted iron remain . Wading only possible to the cribs so limits the fishing on the cadora flat and top of the stream to a few marks.

No fish seen, I expected the odd resident on the flat at this perfect height. Clarity ok-ish but still murky.

River unfishable due to the persistent rains - so much so even the fishing hut was battened down.
Needless to say dawn on the river was magical and it was a pleasure to be back.

32” hen slightly coloured at 4pm. River had about 3’ visibility but held steady all day despite the spate from Wednesday rain in the upper river.

Saw a few coloured residents show on the flat above but didn’t see any fish show in Cadora where it took a small Willy gun tube in the riffle of the submerged rock in Cadora stream.

Access to fishery and water very tricky -overgrown as one might expect at the time of year and little if no evidence of being fished for sometime if at all since the spring.

I made a mistake of driving all the way to the hut despite the warning not to do so unless very dry - usually do not have a problem in any conditions in my 4WD pick up truck. However the track runs very close to the river and had a few hairy moments when it started snaking towards it …having got a 1/4 of the way and realised I’d made a mistake had passed the point of no return and had to carry on to the turning point passed the hut.

But without a vehicle it would be a long 1/mile walk to the end of the beat where you stand the best chance.

Sadly I read the river entirely wrong - colour and height took the beat out of sorts. I also had seal return…it looked healthy and well fed - joy.
Three fish showed on the flats and hopefully will show on the bank on my next visit.
My thanks as always to the owners and WUF for a wonderful day.

I didn't fish because I need to travel from London a day in advance and the river level and water clarity were uncertain.

Fly fished the section for about six hours. The Redbrook gauge was reported at 0.97m. Saw several fish move on the lower section of the beat but not sure if resident or moving through.

What a wet day! Just my luck after the low clear conditions. Sadly nothing caught or seen but from the catkins bringing the first flush of colour, the bird song filling the gorge - my time here is always a pleasure.

However what wasn’t expected to ‘breach’ in my swim was a Grey Seal. Have they ever been known to travel this far upstream before? Thankfully the creature didn’t loiter and carried on till out of sight, I dare say to upset the Wyesham beat too.

My thanks to Mr and Mrs Hudson for a lovely day on their beat, ill look forward to returning very soon.
