5th time on the Towy this year. The Llangadog stretch is lovely water with lots of brown trout spots and a few pools for silver tourists. There were a couple showing off in Crewil but given the water was still low we mostly concentrated on the brownies with dries. And what a day! A few duns hatching and needle flies too … and the brownies were certainly interested! At least 30 to hand for the two of us … the best a 19” clonker , a couple around 14” and the rest feisty and pretty 7-9 inchers. Wonderful fishing! Most on a size 16 grey parachute , All safely returned… including the even bigger clonker James released at long range…

Back in search or sea trout, recent reports indicated they might be about. We fished dry flies for brown trout in the day and managed 9 up to 16” months bough most were about 7-8 inches. Tried for sea trout for the first hour of darkness and we saw 3 or 4 sea trout jumping but no luck in catching one. Had to call it a day about 21:45 as work the next morning would have been a struggle. Thanks for making the beat available on the passport.

Fished afternoon through until 22.15. 7 browns to 10” on dries before it got dark and then we hoped for a silver one . Plenty around … a couple of clonkers included… but no takers. Plenty of insect life in the river and a river bank encounter with a grass snake …

The water was very low and I caught nothing. However the access was poor and heavily overgrown and was very hard going.
I also saw two young mink near the railway bridge.

Our usual Over-optimistic sewin season starts here! A few fish have been coming out following recent mini spates but none for us. This beat has plenty of brownies too however so we had some fun with them on dries before the main business in the dark. Nothing suggestive of sewin seen although there was one salmon showing off …. Always good to see. As was the resident otter. Ah well try again!

A cracking day on the main beat. Fishing was hard but managed 3 on the fly with the largest being a 1lb-1.5lb in the morning and 2 on the rapala in the afternoon with the best being. 3.5lb brown cock fish.

Another visit to the glorious Towy valley. Hoping for a silver tourist but we had to be content with their brown cousins. Given that we only fished seriously for trout for about 5 hours each 22 fish seems a more than decent return …. And just as many came off for LDCR! Most were feisty 7-9 inchers but James found a pod of 14” era and I had a 16” er …. Thought it was a sewin when I first saw it. The wild life on this beat is stunning… kites buzzards sparrow hawk and owl all seen… wading is easy and there is excellent access. What more could we ask for? A few club members turned up to fish in the evening but no problems at all, very friendly.
