This is the first time I've visited the fishery. I started at the 'Lucky Stone' and soon had 4 Chub to trotted meat. After this went quite I moved downstream to the wider areas. Fishing a small PVA bag of pellets on a straight lead down the middle of the river resulted in pretty much a fish a chuck. To be honest I lost count of the number I caught. All Chub in the 2-3lb bracket.
Advice to those visiting for the first time would be, travel as light as possible ( rod, net and a small bag) the Lucky Stone is a tricky spot to get to.
Fish heavy! These fish aren't tackle shy. I fished 18lb mainline and 15lb fluro hook length on the lead set up. Most of the Chub pulled the rod over as you would expect a Barbel too! Finally small baits. All the lead caught Chub were caught on 8mm pellets. Back tomorrow. Hopefully for a Barbel.

The whole purpose of out 200 mile trip was for my son to catch his first Barbel & Chub. We gambled on the " Lucky stone " and were lucky to find it free.
The swim ( peg ) had been fished by another angler that morning, so a gentle trickle of hemp & pellets produced a quality Chub first cast. Latter during a very wet day my son Managed not only one but four Barbel to just under 9lb. In total he had four Barbel & 5 Chub.
A word of warning: Access to the stone is quite dubious in places so don't attempt this if you not good on your feet and certain don't carry to much gear.
Tight lines.

I tried to get to the lucky stone but was beaten by another angler. Although he was kind enough to suggest we fished either side of him, it wasn't safe enough to do so in the rain. We walked the fields having concorde cardiac hill, which isn't to bad if I'm honest. There's not many options in the way of swims but we settled on a stone bank within the second field.
We didn't catch anything today but did see fish topping.
Having talked with some local fisherman, if you can't get to the " kissing stone " you may struggle as we had.

Our first visit to Fownhope 5 and was lucky to meet a local man,John, who was very helpful and pointed us in the right direction to the good spots. We decided to walk the stretch first and soon found out why Heart attack hill is called what it is! Unfortunately after our walk one of our party did not feel well so another attempt at Heart attack hill was not a good idea. A word of warning, the three of us are all in our 60s or 70s and reasonably fit but the hill loaded with tackle could have been a step too far. A nice location but in the end we did not fish but enjoyed our lunch by the riverside before heading home.

Struggled to catch on the feeder so tried a bit of Euro nymphing which accounted for the majority of the chub and both barbel. Great fun.
