Fished 2 swims around the lucky stone and caught steadily all day. Most caught on feeder apart from 1 barbel and about 5 chub on the float. Hooked a salmon on luncheon meat which proceeded to strip about 70 yards of line off as it went off like a jet ski downstream before the hook pulled. Lost about 20 feeders in snags but that's the price for this magical swim.

A quieter day for Fownhope.
A new 'tackle losing' snag at the lucky stone. Felt like rock rather than weed. Best barbel just under 8lb to meat.
The other were two eels, the one at 3lbs

Afternoon / evening on the lucky stone. Chub of really good stamp averaging 4/5. Barbel all smaller than previously caught from this swim apart from one which although I didn’t have my scales was a pb for sure, I estimate a low double. Absolute beast. Was raining and river was rising. Caught on robin red margin ground bait full of pellet. Darkened off with super g black. Boiles and pellets on hook. Crazy amount of chub in this swim at mo.

Another wonderful day on the balsa trotting meat or bread, feeding hemp. Good quality chub to near 5lb and managed 3 barbel again around 6lb each. Little bit more water than last week but still spot on for float fishing. Had a wonderful morning. One concerning feature is a small fire pit in the woods which was not there last week. Hope no one is night fishing in the woods. Thanks WUF for another glorious session on the river Wye.

Bright and sunny conditions after midweek rain had pushed the level up. River was very coloured at start of session with visibility down to a few murky brown inches. This improved as the day wore on and the level contined to drop. We had twelve good chub all on flavoured or standard luncheon meet though we did try the ubiquitous pellet. This is a lovely stretch of the Wye, will be back when it is running clear.

After two days of rain we found the river to be up around a further 2ft overnight. It was carrying quite a bit of colour and lots of debris. After some discussion we settled on pegs at the very far downstream end of the beat and occupied pegs either side of the tree with the rope swing. The river dropped a lot throughout the day but remained quite pacey.
The fishing proved to be much better than expected given the conditions. We landed a total of 19 Barbel with all of the fish being in the 6lb - 7.5lb range. The sport was steady but with a couple of purple patches when there were a lot of feeding fish around. Unusually, pellet wasn't the best bait and most fell to sweetcorn. Fewer Chub were showing today but, in my experience, they tend not to feed so well when there's lots of colour in the water.

Great looking beat, river up around five feet coloured and pacy. I fished the wood section which in hindsight was probably a mistake, as the flow was quickest here and impossible to hold bottom so had to stick to the margins. One eel, two chub 4lb each and a barbel 8lb 2oz. One more small barbel in the top section to finish the day. Many thanks W&U

River had risen overnight and was a few feet up. Walked all of the way to the woods and did have a go there, but with very limited access, fishing was difficult. Managed one chub and then decided to move. Eventually found a peg with smooth flow and had 1 barbel in the morning. I returned at 5:30pm and had another 8 barbel before they went off the feed at around 8:30.
Lots of small taps that were difficult to hit, but when I did, they turned out to be barbel! Not a single typical rod bending barbel bite all day. First fish on luncheon meat, the rest on pellets.
