One of the driest Septembers on record I understand and this was reflected in the river conditions. Water very low with hardly any flow, tried pellet feeder in the middle of the beat and trotting meat in the faster water by the island with a negative result.

Have fished this stretch for many years and the banks are now getting overgrown in places but still plenty of swims. Water is slow and stale and fish are not feeding til early evening. Caught very large eel on pellet and returned it safely.

With the Wye very low and clear we were driven to fish the oxygenated water of Church stream. This was largely to no avail as only one chub graced our efforts. As usual some canoeists were a complete pain. Most - including parties of children - were fine; the more capable ones negotiated Church stream easily, the less experienced dragged their canoes safely across the exposed gravel. However, we still had to contend with 3 50 something men who delighted in ramming their canoe into the infamous sunken branch and then whooping with delight at the fact that they hadn't sunk it. And then there were the stone throwing yobs....

A cracking stretch with a lot of character and light canoe traffic which was pleasant. A low and clear running river made it difficult but fish were still willing to feed throughout the whole day. All fish were taken on double pellet and meat. A very enjoyable day had by us both and we will be back when the river's got a bit of extra water in it.
