A nice bit of water, had a permit for two days. fished downstream of the island on day one had some nice Barbel and Chub. Day two much of the same, Barbel to 8lb and Chub to 5lb also a nice eel about 3lb. Bright sunny conditions, though nice made it slow going but stick with it when sun begins to dip, some truly savage takes. Meat and Pellet.

A truly beautiful stretch of the wye. The conditions were sadly not ideal with bright sun and very low water levels. Started at the top of the beat but with the river so low the swims were pretty hard to access. Worked way up to The Island but unfortunately the fishing was thoroughly disturbed by the canoeists all capsizing on the same sunken tree mentioned in an earlier post. Every canoe, without exception, capsized and the disturbance every hour made fishing a bit pointless. I'm not blaming the canoeists - that tree needs to be removed! No fish for me but two chub to my fishing partner. I did, however, manage to net a pristine can of Holsten Pils which was a welcome refreshment in the heat. Will return later in the autumn.

Fished to pool near The Island.
2 Barbel - 7.4lbs and 5.4lbs.
2 Chub - 2.5lbs and 3lbs.
Fishing then disturbed by an incident involving a group of canoeist. Two boats hit a tree in the fast water at the top of the stretch the river was covered in allsorts of equipment.
At first annoyed with the disturbance but quickly realised that a member of their party was hanging from the tree in the fast water, he could not swim and didn't have a life jacket on. We managed to get a life jacket to him and then get him on to dry land.
Pleased to be able to help but no further fish caught...

On our first visit to The Creel, we were impressed with the setting and appearance of the beat but had difficulty in finding safe swims down the very steep banks. It appears not to be yet fully established as a coarse fishery and the places we fished would be dangerous in wet or high water conditions. It was a beautiful day, however and once fishing we enjoyed our catch of six barbel to eight pounds and a bag of lively chub and were amused by the comings and goings of the hundreds of Canada Geese. The wild side of the Wye at its best?

Great days fishing, 16 x chub to 6lb 7oz and 11 x barbel to 10lb, all fish taken with feeder on meat or pellets.
The river was in excellent condition and the wildlife made it a pleasurable beat to fish.
The Canoe traffic was light throughout the day with the exception of two clowns in an inflatable with an outboard motor going through noisily churning up all the weed in the afternoon. We only left when it got dark!

Moved around throughout the day, Chub were suicidal for the first 90 mins in each swim. Most chub 3-4lbs. Had a few at 4-5oz, my hookbait was as big as their head! Settled into a swim for the evening. The chub kept coming until the last half hour of light when I had 3 barbel in quick succession. Strange day as the last time I was here me and a friend had 20 Barbel between us and only 2 Chub.

Low clear water conditions. Picture post card spot with church as back drop. Took fish late on pellet and feeder. Struggled all day exploring all the pegs. Owners came for a chat late in day and some good advice.
