3 Chub between two Anglers in reasonable conditions, very disappointing. I believe the River is suffering badly due to the well documented pollution issues

Had the beat to myself so was roving the margins for pike, float-fishing deadbaits. River still very low and clear despite rain overnight. Started grey and mild and had a take (missed) before catching a fiesty pike below the island that broke the surface attacking the bait. Then the wind really picked up with bright sunshine and it all went quiet. Tried trotting some corn and bread for chub for an hour but couldn't see the float for waves and glare!
Had a second pike on static bait late in the afternoon when the wind and sun had calmed down.
Also saw my first Wye otter which cheered me up. I doubt the previous comment made by another angler about the otter killing the swans and geese, which sadly are still there. Most likely, as WUF mentioned, deaths were a result of avian influenza which was reported in the area.

Arrived to a lovely looking river, but -4 degrees. Fished for chub and caught 4 roving on meat. A good day considering temperature.
On the down side I was sickened to see 6 dead Swans and 1 Canadian geese! The only thing I can think of killing them must be Otters.
FISHING PASSPORT NOTE: If you come across dead waterfowl please report it to Defra as soon as you can on 03459 335577. This was potentially a case of avian flu, which has struck poultry in the Ross area recently.
