River was a light chocolate colour and pushing through quite well. Between us we tried various spots from the end of beat 4 towards the start of beat 6. I lost a barbel at about 7am then had a chub of almost 4lbs at about lunchtime. Tom had a couple of chub of 3lbs+ in the evening but the barbel evaded us. Tried meat, pellets and paste. Lovely looking stretch and would like to have a go when the water was within my summer comfort range. Did see an otter, a mink, multiple salmon leaping clear of the water and an interesting variety of birds.

Started at 5.30am, river alive with activity, and had two shad and lost a salmon around 6-8lb by 8am, all from beat 3. No more action thereafter but fish showing all over beat 3. Frustrated residents, mainly coloured. Should have started at 4!

Water was low, warm and sunny day. saw one salmon at the bottom of beat 2, could not walk from beat 2 to beats 3 & 4 due to barbed wire, signs were non existant.
WUF Note : The barbed wire fencing has stiles erected at all the relevant places. Beat maps are issued and advice offered to anyone visiting.

We chose one of the brightest and warmest days of the year, which did not help the fishing, we had a few tugs and one chub for our efforts. The river absolutely abounds with fry at the moment and we saw trout and perch constantly attacking these massive shoals. This is perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of the Wye that we have ever fished and despite our disappointment on the day we will come back.

Nice day out, Lost a very good salmon on a Rapala (20lb+). Hooked the fish and 3 minutes later the plug came back and the treble was crushed. Stronger hook next time. Also turned another smaller fish and missed a good take in Loxters. Saw 5 fish all day. Thanks to Terry again for the help.

Fished a party of rods Tues-Fri at Whitney. Terry as ever helpful, knowledgeable and a good guide to all on this beat. River was dropping back quietly from rains of previous week and was clear and very 'fishy'. Many shad seen breeding on the gravels, a good rise of fat trout , some caught and returned, and yes salmon seen in every pool except beat 2. Probably needs a a couple of inches to freshen up the pools and get salmon moving. Excellent .
