Fished beats four and five from 8am to 8pm. Between the two of us we fished six swims in an effort to find the barbel. One fished pellet with robin red ground bait feeder, the other mainly single boilie on carpet of mixed ground bait.
The wooded swims on beat five produced good chub to 5lb all day. The open swims after the second "S" bend produced just two chub during the day. However as the sun went down four barbel were hooked, all subsequently were lost in some horrid snags which we assume were submerged logs. This section of the river beyond the backwater looks gravelly, with serenely smooth water. Don't be fooled!
Regrettably nowhere else produced barbel so the day ended with a great catch weight of eighteen hard fighting chub. Fish were taken throughout the day and rotating through four or five swims seemed to work best.
We will be back for the barbel very soon. This is a great venue in terrific scenic countryside.

Water should have been OK, high but clearing. Fished inside edge of seams in several places. MB had his first Chub & Barbel which made my day. Picnic & birdwatching was probably the best part of the day. Every mayfly that came off was hammered by the Sand Martins before they got six feet into the air, straight down the centre of their open mouths...such accuracy.

Hard days fishing with the river coming down from a flood, managed to find a few bits of quieter water where the chub were biting but only managed to connect with one.

Different day, weather wise from Saturday but the river obviously still low. There were a couple of fish showing iat the bottom of beat 3 probably residents, certainly not takers. Lots of surface activity with the trout and a few Mayfly coming off.
A bit of a gripe. I started fishing the bottom of beat 6, fishing the run behind the bottom crib when a dark coloured Fourtrack appeared on my bank, parked up below me at the top of the run unloaded four kids and the driver, They all got out and had a merry old time skimming and throwing stones in. They stayed for about 15 minutes until it started raining, Why there? They had the whole river to choose from. They could obviously see me fishing and I was working my way down to that run. I take it ,it must have been one of the farmers but its not a good advert for the water and not the kind of thing I would expect as a paying guest. The canoes, well, that's another story.....
