Another very hot day, again prompting two people to take a dip in the pool beneath the aqueduct (although this time, SL from Looe, they were not both ladies, sorry! ). Caught one trout of about 1lb just above the aqueduct on a Griffiths Gnat. We also each saw mink - possibly the same one of course - along the bank.

Sunny calm day. River looking gorgeous as were 2 young ladies who decided to strip off for a dip just upstream of us !! Keen to rebook in hot weather only !
Aside from the distractions, only one 1.5lb brownie caught in the pool above the mill. Perhaps they were distracted too.

Another big water day but rather better weather than yesterday. Sadly, very little of the beat was fishable due to high flows, despite the water clearing slowly through the day. Did a lot of walking and climbing up and down slippery banks. Very little hatching and nothing seen rising despite the sunny conditions. The pool immediately below the aqueduct provided the only substantive fishing, so fished it up three times! One 12” trout on GRHE nymph variant was the only reward (returned). This is very definitely not a beat for a big water day.

A cold and bright day greeted us in this very slow burner spring. Water level was good after a recent freshet. I caught my first ever fish on a partridge and orange casting upstream to a likely holding spot. A localised hatch of iron blues bought the fish to the surface, and I had a further 4 on a dry adams. This was a very pleasing spell, casting to rising fish is such an enjoyable experience. Sadly the hatch petered out as the wind increased and the Usk returned to its challenging normal state.
My friend JJ took 4 on nymphs , commenting that he had only seen the odd sporadic rise. All fish were in good condition and the majority were around the 1 lb mark, they gave a great account of themselves and all were returned safely
Great show of nature today, with Kingfishers, dippers, wagtails, Martins, Kites, Buzzards, and Sandpipers all in evidence.
I think I'm ready for Spring to really get going, not sure I should be wearing 6 layers when fishing in May!
A very enjoyable day in a special place.

Beautiful day and river in good condition. Fish rising to good hatch of March browns around lunchtime but I had no luck with the dry fly. Caught 1 medium sized WBT on a copper John early on. Fish safely returned.
