Second visit of the week on the Usk and weather slightly overcast and breezy. I knew the river was on its knees but again started at bottom of beat. High sticking again with grhe & Black nymphs which were taken by 3 trout but all lost. Finally managed to hook and land a very welcome trout which made up for the frustrations of the day. Access to the bottom part of the beat could be made safer and also the top access point needs work, however didn't spoil the day even though after patching up my waders they still leak.

Lovely day with all fish caught in quicker water or closer to bank under overhanging trees. Could have done with more water and more flow.

River low and very clear. Bright and breezy afternoon with nothing rising. Tried spiders and duo with no response. More hatches started at 5 to 6 pm and fish started to rise at around 7 pm. We netted 3 WBT between 1 to 1.5 lbs (safely returned) and 3 good fish slipped the hook (probably due to our incompetence!). All fish caught on Jonathan Barnes Soft Hackle dries and we were never sure what the fish were feeding on. Lovely afternoon and evening on the water.

Fished 10 till late. River was quite low. Fished mostly dry flies only but had to search for rising fish. Had many more opportunities and fish on than the 5 fish landed shows. Best Dry Flies were Hares Ear Klink and Adams.
