A fabulous day for my first salmon outing of 2020. Weather and river conditions felt spot on. Unfortunately no salmon but I caught three of the most splendidly conditioned brown trout I've ever seen from the middle of Dol-meudwy. Two in the region of 2lbs and the third close to 3lb. Had I caught them on trout gear I'd have called it a red-letter day and bragged shamelessly! Full marks to WUF for maintaining such a magnificent river.

I think this beats fishes well, all things being equal, when it’s at about 1ft on the Llanstephan gauge as it was today; plenty of pools and riffles in play and not too tricky to wade. Only the one trout (just over 12”) but grayling were active all afternoon - 12 to hand up to 14”.
The day was marked by huge numbers of olives coming off at regular intervals, more than I’ve seen in a while, if not ever, on the Wye. Despite that nothing came to the surface; all fish fell to a team of two weighted nymphs, both shrimp patterns.
1 Trout, 12 Grayling
