A day of glorious weather! Really did feel like spring although no-one told the fish. We are always keen to get our first session in and the weather forecast certainly encouraged us. A few olives hatching but not a single fish seen moving - the river is low and the sun was bright. By 5pm we were back at the bridge by the house so walked up from there and after a day of fruitlessly matching the hatch all day Jim tied on a ginger Jingler. First cast in to the fast water … wallop! A lovely 15” trout. Saved the blank!

River rather low and very quiet. No fly and only a couple of rises observed in five hours of fishing. Just one 8” trout caught.

Water very fishable but very cold (no higher than 6 degrees on thermometer all day)! Plenty of spider and nymph fishing with no success and no fish seen, about to leave when spotted a fish rising 100 yards above bridge regularly so put a size 16 quill olive over it and landed it first cast!

Good conditions. Fish healthy, classic Usk browns. Woolly Bugger, black.

Fished from 11 til 4 river was at a good level and conditions were good except no body told the fish one of those strange days were everything was right but it didn’t really happen, bits of fly life mid afternoon with odd rises , struggled to pick up a few fish very un usk like
