My first visit to the Usk this year and unfortunately all the porkers seemed to be somewhere else. Saw very little in the way of fish all day but did manage 3 x wbt to nymph patterns fished on a french leader. All returned.

3 Trout

1 small trout caught on size 18 Adams. Very cold East wind may have accounted for little observed fish activity.

River was rock bottom, low and clear Conditions were bright and sunny with slight cloud later. Very few fish were rising and although I missed a couple on drys it was very hard going. 1 small fish came to a small Goldhead nymph on Klink and Dink and I lost another fish on nymph late in the day. In hindsight I should have fished long range nymphing tactics but you live and learn.
It's a beautiful stretch of water and will return.

River in good condition, if a little low as is normal at this time of year. Lovely day, although later on that caused my shadow to lengthen across the water. That alone though can't account for my low tally of 2 fish - one of 6, one of 8 inches. A bigger one (of course) got away. I was fishing spiders, but I'm afraid I can't remember their names. I must start labeling them in my fly box.

2 Trout

Bright with a cold wind. The water was gin clear, so long leaders were the order of the day. Had one nice fish early on swinging a small black spider. Picked up a couple of smaller fish through the day on small tungsten nymphs
As the light started to soften there as a small flurry of hatching insects that got the trout moving that produced 3 fish in about 20 minutes to a size 16 CDC & Elk.

Great day on the Usk again, water high so wading a bit tricky!

River very full and flowing; downstream wet fly, Wickhams, Landed 4 up 6oz to 1lb. Plenty of takes.

Very quiet, a few very small rising - limited time on water to 3 hours due to another commitment also very early AM so not unusual to see limited action - not fish caught had 2 come to dry fly but very small fish turn away at last moment.

Small trout caught on small pheasant tail missed three. Saw two very nice trout but alas they spotted me too. Still great fun. Thank you.

River very low ... all the fish were taken in fast water, nymph suspended under an indicator ... hooked and lost a couple.
