A great day on Saturday - fair bit of water running off the Beacons from Friday's downpour and water fairly brown in the morning before clearing around lunch. Very light intermittent drizzle in the afternoon which brought the fish on - missed a 1.5llb on the run before Vicarage pool and touched another four smaller fish or so. Took one 0.5lber. Beautiful setting and the wading was manageable even with a good current.

Reasonable conditions, river clear and a fair hatch. Located one or two rising fish in a few awkward locations but couldn't manoeuvre into position stealthily enough!

Remembering some cautionary words from the Booking Office about tricky wading and the likelihood of ending up with a wet arm or worse on Fenni Fach, I tackled this beat with sleeves well rolled up and full knee and shin pads from Frank at Guide’s Choice Flyfishing Tackle (no commercial connection, just a very happy customer).
By getting right down and crawling stealthily (and safely!) across the bedrock shelves in the middle of this beat, I was able to creep up on the trout with dries and a Lucas-style presentation leader. I blew a couple of chances on good fish - including one where I hooked up briefly and then got the long rod tip stuck in an overhanging tree - but I was pretty happy with 7 trout to about 12 inches. And now I know where the really big ones live…

Low water, nil caught.

Another enjoyable day, albeit a blank. The river level was reasonable for this time of year and some activity with respect to rises in the evening.

Caught 2 trout and lost another after the sun went down. March brown dry fly for the 2 landed and safely returned. One fish just under a lb the other just over.

4 trout 1/2 - 3/4 lb all on nymph. Fished to 9.30pm, no real rise. Big fish in pools top end of beat. A pleasure to fish.

River was very clear but plenty of flow. A few fish rising throughout the afternoon/evening but no real rise late on. 2 fish (best 1lb) were taken on the dry with the other 2 on deeply sunk nymphs. River bed made wading difficult but no more than lots of other WUF waters - wading sticks are ESSENTIAL. A long beat with plenty of opportunities for different styles of fishing.
