Lovely afternoon, but nothing caught. In fact, saw very little fly life on the river and few fish moving. Tried mainly may flies and grey wulff. Very efficient service from the Foundation, as ever, but more detailed description of the best fishing pools would be helpful to a poor angler like myself.

No fish caught. Overcast day with light rain. No fish seen rising, water was crystal clear. A mink was seen in the river with young if this is of interest. Nice stretch of river will try again another day.

Could have been a sea trout, or a very good wild brown trout, or even a stocked brown from elsewhere on the river. Either way, it was a monster. Actually, two monsters, one about 2lb and the other even bigger at 2.5lb. Nothing all morning and then half a dozen, including the two lunkers, in one pool, one after the other within a 30min span. Could have been the weighted nymph (which I subsequently lost up a tree), or the sun which peaked through, the time of day, or just pure luck. As luck would have it, nothing for rest of day but what thrill to catch and release the two monsters. Fantastic.

4 x WBT to the net, all released. Quite a few missed. Sporadic rises during mid-late afternoon when some welcome cloud cover arrived. Midge patterns and GRHE accounted for the return.

What a beautiful stretch of river! Very hot and bright day with a slow but consistent hatch of brook duns and ther odd LDO during the day. Nothing rising but some good fish seen including a whopper - I should think 3-4 pounds but couldn't get a cast at him. Only took two fish of about 9 inches. One on a Waterhen Bloa and the other with a spinner at dusk. There was a good fall of spinner and a sedge hatch late evening which bought some fish up for an hour or so. Good fun and I am sure a decent angler could have had much more success than me. Kingfishers, dippers, kites, herons and...Goosanders!

Despite only cathcing only 2 WBT, one was estimated to be 4lbs, taken on a small olive klinkhammer, the other on a GRHE. Modest numbers of fish were taking flies off the surface throughout the day but we were disappointed by the evening rise, despite excellent conditions.

Couple of trout caught on a hot sunny day. Few trout seen rising, despite prolific hatches. Beautiful location.

Very cold morning, but then it go gradually warmer from lunchtime onwards and the fly life and trout responded well. I started early in the morning and had hooked and lost two nice fish by midday although very little sign of life. Resumed fishing around 1pm when it got a bit warmer and various upwings made an appearance. Some fish started to rise and also take nymphs. I ended up having a wonderful afternoon after a disappointing morning. Five lovely fish landed including one lunker of 3.5lb! The large fish put up a battle royal on 7X, but came in over the net after around a much gutter rubbing and shooting up and down the pool. Lovely birdsong from the trees and a lovely day on the Usk. I even had to man handle a live lamb out of the river which had somehow got stuck - needless to say the lamb was very relieved to run back to mother! Thank you WUF!

Nice day on the river. Manage to come across a number of fish rising in a pool in the woods and successfully scared what looked to be a very nice trout. The smaller fish ignored everything in the fly box but looked to be feeding hard on Olives.
One concern was the water treatment plant on the right bank was releasing a cloudy white liquid into the river. I called the EA pollution hotline and they said that they would investigate and get the water company to check.
WUF NOTE: This is exactly what to do if you come across suspected pollution. Please also remember to ask the EA for an incident number and let us know what it is so that we can follow up on the action they took.
