A beautiful varied beat. Only fished lower sections. A very small LDO hatch around 2 got into what felt like a decent fish but lost it in a downstream run.

A lovely sunny day on this most scenic of beats. 0.52 on Trallong gauge, the river with a slight tinge of colour. A few mayfly came off but no rises seen. Only one enquiry on a nymph. Tough going. Saw a salmon roll above downstream waterfall. A kingfisher busy catching some of the abundant fry in margins.

Nice weather, if a little cool - it's not many days since the water was too warm to fish. Two trout (about ½lb and ¾lb) caught on downstream nymph, and returned. A bigger one hooked for a few seconds. A typical grand finale for the last day's fishing of the season (for me). Or maybe just an ordinary finale. My back aches, my foot is wet and it's a 1½hour drive home - but I know in a few days time I'll want to do it all again. Is it the river, the fish, or the second breakfast at Three Cocks on the way over? Probably all three. Roll on next season!

Interesting beat and first time fishing the Upper Usk. Found farm parking point the most convenient parking spot. A easy short walk across field to river. Low water which was a surprise considering I was on the Wye the previous day. A lot of skinny clear water with some deeper pools. Would suit a 7'6'' rod as many over hanging trees. Only had one touch on a weighted nymphs but that was my lot. Was disappointed that I couldn't get below water fall from the point unless I had a ladder. Needs more water but a very interesting beat. Farmer was helpful with parking - Left by the shed.
WUF: Parking information for lower part could be more detailed. A simple WUF sign would confirm parking ponit. Also the road is a single lane and with very few passing points.
