Trout of 15, 15 and 16 inches, two on nymph in daytime, one on small sedge late evening (10pm), broken by a bigger one. Also a 4lb chub on a nymph. Fish very finnicky/shy, but those little dimples prove (when one occasionally gets one, even if waiting to 10.15pm) to be substantial fish...

My first time on this beat. A really hot and sunny day, so not the best day for fishing, especially to try somewhere new. River was very low.

I hooked a real beauty but didn't manage to net it...

Fly fishing for trout, used surface floating flies. No bites or fish caught. Saw some early rises in the morning, dull midday with some more rises and jumps in the afternoon. Weather was nice and sunny but with overcast cloudy patches every so often.

Such a lovely spot - red kite, oyster catcher, plovers, egrets, millions of sand martins.
Absolutely no action to Klink&Dink-style during the daytime & was difficult with gusty wind still, but from 8.30 it all came alive as expected & it was super fun - could have stayed later if I'd not got a fair drive back because they were still rising merrily at 10.15 under a gorgeous dusk.
The fish came to deershuckers from Barbless Flies - lost a couple more too - lovely, healthy, powerful fish.
A total tonic ;)

Tough day with a stiff wind and bright sunshine all afternoon. Managed a few trout, predominantly in the last couple of hours of light when there was a decent hatch of BWOs.

Despite high expectations this was quite a tough but still enjoyable day on the middle Usk, which is definitely starting to show signs of an algal bloom. The normally clear late May water had a strong green tinge with visibility around 3 feet. Still, it was certainly fishable and coloured water always makes approaching fish a little easier.
Mayflies, yellow Mays, olive uprights and smaller olives hatched sporadically although every one we saw ended up in the beak of one of the many swallows, sand martins and swifts swooping down over the river.
Rises were few and far between but we tempted 5 to just over 2lbs to mayfly pattern, cdc shuttlecock emerger and klinkhammer. Fish activity picked up a little in the evening although we were off the water by 8.30pm.

Managed to hook and lose two on a dry fly and my partner in crime hooked a 2lb trout on a ptn which promptly jumped off and swam away.
Great beat and great fun
