Nothing doing - just some dimpling rises. Fell in - but (this) phone still seems to be working...

First outing of the season, plenty of flies hatching and few fish rising though difficult to tempt. First trout of season caught on a beadhead hares ear nymph and was 16" so well pleased with that, missed a rise to a Jingler. Nice beat.

1 Trout

Our first day out this season. A fantastic days fishing on the old Clytha beat. Euro nymphing, dry fly, and spider tactics were used. Lost the first fish of the day which was an absolute cracker. Really gutted! The second fish was caught on a small olive dry fly and expected to be around a pound in weight. Lunchtime seemed the best time to fish. A few rises and a decent hatch of MBs. We had around 4 misses too. For a small beat it was fairly productive. I think there will be a decent lunch/evening dry fly session to come from this beat and I will be returning when the weather improves (it was very cold). Overall the river fished well for this time of year.

Warm day and low water. Nothing moving.

3 hours in evening, lovely time but did not see a fish.

No fish caught or seen but had a great day anyway and this beat has easy parking and access to the river, I would like to try this beat on an evening

No fish today. Spent a few hours up and down the beat, nothing on nymph. Tried a Dun and got a few rises in the middle section of the best and a few takes but they were too quick for me. Always a nice beat to while away a few hours… will be back.

My 1st trip to the Usk yesterday, Not much fly-life, a few pale wateries, and just the odd rise. Managed 3 takes on a iron-blue dun, missed the lot. Watched a salmon around 15lb making its way up the middle of the river. Other than a downstream wind, conditions and the river looked good.

Unfortunately there was a camping party on the other side of the river towards the downstream end of the beat. They were fooling around in the river and making a lot of noise.
I gave up after an hour.
