One small grilse briefly hooked on a fly just below the fishing lodge in the rapids. It shook itself free after a few jumps and shot off downstream. No other salmon showing.

Fished hard from 6am to 10pm without a touch. Water in perfect nick at about 1ft 10inches but bright sunny conditions weren't ideal. Thought this would probably have hampered everyone but was surprised to learn that they'd had 6 from the Rectory just downstream. Only saw one fish, a big red fish in the Bachawy pool.

6 small trout and a 3-4lb grilse in the morning. A 15lbs salmon from infront the lodge at 2pm in the afternoon. The salmon was marginally bigger than those landed by the other rods who both also landed fine fish. A great day out.

Water was very high and fast having had a wash off previously we felt we had to go this time. No fish rising, plenty of small trout/salmon par and grayling to 8", a couple of larger grayling to 10". Most went to heavy gold head nymphs and a couple to klink & dink.

Fresh 10 pound salmon from Arnie's Pool on size 8 Red Francis at 8pm - water evidently clear enough for modest-sized fly.

Prospects looked better than the previous day with the water fining down but still coloured. First visit to this beat so I relied on info from Simon from WUF for the likely hot spots on this height (2'2" at Lanstephan). He came up trumps - I scored with a colouring 10 lber from the Bachawy wading almost up to my armpits (water not particularly deep but I don't own long legs !!). I latched onto another for a few seconds off Green Bank which came to nothing. Several trout for all 3 rods, 1 around the 3 lb mark. Other rods had no luck with salar.
