First time I've used the new lower access and not any problems. Unfortunately the fishing turned out to be much more challenging, as the cold upstream breeze kept most of the insect life and virtually all of the fish dormant. Tried everything from weighted nymphs to spiders and even dries. Only managed to get the one take, and that was to the dry, but I was so surprised I missed it - D'oh!

A fantastic day on this lovely beat with my 11 year old son. No salmon visible, but I hooked into 1 very large one at Erwood (lost fly as it snapped 25lb line after it set off after a shake of its head) and another at Armies (fly came loose after it took on dangle and slewed into slack water). Very frustrating, but great sport. A very large trout(?) followed my fly at Green bank but turned as I lifted (should have let fly dangle!). Smaller trout came to the fly throughout the beat. All trout returned. A day is never long enough!
Two important points to raise though: we pay a fair amount to fish for salmon, yet landowners are slow to assist with signing the pools at the riverbank (which, of the many, exactly is the ridge of rock that marks the short ‘Bathing pool’?). Also, trying to advance up the left bank is ridiculously difficult - out of control undergrowth and fallen trees across the path - I’m in good health, but I struggled with constant snags and athletics over obstacles. It doesn’t take much investment to clear a path with a chain saw to make the left bank accessible.

A beautiful day to fish, this was. Warm and not too windy and with a good level of water. I fully expected to see a salmon or two, even if I failed to catch them. I saw nothing. No sign of salmon at all. I'm really worried...

Low and clear, bright sunshine. 1 oos grayling on a dry in a slower pool, 4 trout all on nymphs in fairly fast water, one very nice fish. No hatches, saw just a few small olives coming off and a few splashy rises. Conditions not easy but a lovely quiet day on this very pretty and varied beat.

Another lovely day on the Wye. Very little activity on top so went with team of spiders and a gold head GRHE on point, steady succession of modest size trout and grayling in the faster water at the bottom of the beat. After lunch moved up to top of the beat and worked my way through the fast water yielding only two trout. From 5pm to 6pm had a purple patch in the fast water at the bottom of the beat, all 5-9" trout really lively with lots of aerobatics. Great way to finish.
