A beautiful spot but fly life was poor, certainly I expected it to be better. Predominant hatch was midge and they were not being taken until later on about 6ish when I took the two grayling on an emerger midge both around 8 inch.

The weather looked perfect - a soft warm day with high cloud. Fish were enjoying themselves too - plenty of fly lie around in the air, only saw a few yellow mays and olives hatching though. River getting very low but that does mean areas that can otherwise be difficult to access are available to cover. Trout to 10" and lovely fat grayling to 17". All fish caught on dries - para ginger quill, deerhair sedge and Griffiths gnat. A clonker blipping in a deep channel took the gnat and took me straight down to the rocks and cut the leader - ho hum!

Shared a rod with my son on his first try with a fly. Nice open area for casting practice but bright day with not much rising. 2 grayling a small trout (gold head nymph) a bonus and hopefully will encourage him back for more.

What a lovely streach of river! After Saturday's rain I was suprised how clear the water was with very little colour. A cool, upstream wind prevented the hoped for fly hatch after the rain but the were sparodic hatches throughout the day with fish raising all day. Most fell to either a Hawthorne sparkle fished on or just under the surface or Green Olive type pattern on top.
Enough activity to keep things interesting. Most fish were 1/4- 1/2lb.

This was a workshop day with the Welsh International Rivers Team and proved to be a very successful event. We were trying out new techniques and tactics. Next one will be on the 2nd August 2015. Anyone that is interested please contact john_symonds@btconnect.com. The day costs £50 per participant.
