3 x trout and 4 x grayling all caught on the dry fly, sadly none of the fish were of any size but it was still a pleasure to be out on this stretch of the Wye. All fish were returned to grow on to be enjoyed by others. Very little fly life hatching throughout the day but an olive and green klinkhammer did the trick.

11 x grayling 12-16 inches, 4 x trout 6-12 inches. Rather odd weather, today, beginning with - was it very thick condensing mist or a thin drizzle? - going on to be hot and sticky during the afternoon, followed by a cold wind and then finally mist again rolling down from the Black Mountains. I fished during the warm afternoon and found almost nothing rising naturally, but a suitable artificial seemed to attract some nice grayling up to the surface for a while until the cold wind brought the action to a halt by late afternoon. Grey Duster and Grayling Steel Blue in sizes 16 and 18 were the patterns which did best.

A difficult day on what is usually a far more predictable beat at this time of year. Little fly life and few fish rising, All fish taken on dry. A beginners session with the salmon road but as no silver tourists seen to offer encouragement stuck to trouting!
2 other rods coming off the water when we arrived may not have helped....

Day 3 of trip for JD and JE. Joined by MH from Surrey. Ty Newydd proved difficult fish today with little hatch and little showing. Water quite down. JE tactics of nymphing proved fruitful. Trout all over 10" to best at 16". Grayling to 16". Planned to fish later than usual but low cloud cover and temperature inversion seemed to send fish down deep.

Wash off due to heavy rain, but we didn't have to worry as we received an excellent response from the Wye and Usk team when we booked again at a later date.

Arrived late after a horrendous journey on the M4 east of the bridge. Held up in Wales by two abnormal loads meeting head to head on a narrow road-each with its tail back behind. Found wet sqally conditions and managed one pull on GRHE and one rise to a klinkhammer. After 18 months off rivers I was too rusty to connect.

The river was quite low but perfect for trout and a warm day. Had plenty of takes, landed 5 fish between 2 rods, beautiful Grayling to 14 inches. Various methods of Fly but best on day was a small nymph under dry fly indicator.
Four fish returned to water, one brown trout kept.
Wading on the day was good on gravel with low water but beware of slippery boulders!
Thanks for a great day first time here, well organised.

A blank day. Mainly down to my inexperience as a flyfisher I believe. River low, overcast. A few fish rising, but mainly fished nymph. A lovely beat. Enjoyed the Dippers and Kingfishers.

River fished well in challenging conditions at times. This stretch offers a full variety of waters and dries, wets and nymphs all useful in the right spots (anglers staying for the evening rise on some of the smooth "flats" would do well to pack a few very small gnat flies - and be ready for a large fish!).
All fish caught were of good size - 1lb and upwards.
Have wanted to fish here for years - it didn't disappoint.
