Fishing:Trout (River)

Fished with a dropper the lower part of the beat but no takes or rises. Weather turned nicer and warmer in the afternoon but no hatches that I would had expected.
Gusty wind blowing downstream made casting upstreams challenging.

19 x trout 8 - 15 inches, mostly on spiders, Waterhen Bloa and Hare's Lug and Plover. Last 4 fish on dries on a pool tail during an LDO hatch, Stuart Jarvis' Bastard Adams and Olive Jingler. Water high but clear. March browns elsewhere on the beat apparently.

The river was still high at 1ft 2ins on the web cam. The cold NE wind blowing downstream and bright sun didn’t help. I saw only a few large Dark Olives hatching after noon and not a single trout rose. All five trout were caught on a deeply fished size 14 olive nymph. They were taken on the flats with no takes in faster streams - presumably because there were no hatches there.

First outing of the season. We found the river level manageable and the water clear. The North Westerly wind felt cold, but thankfully the sun was out and kept us warm. We noticed just a few olives hatching in the early afternoon but I did not see any rises. My fishing friend was fortunate to locate two rising fish but did not manage to deceive them. I persevered with spiders, across and down and managed 3 fish and lost another one. Just after 3pm there was a hatch of March Browns for about 20 minutes. We saw 5 or 6 fish move and managed to get one to rise but did not connect.

Lovely day to be out.

One NZ style nymphing and one on a small DHE at lunchtime when a short hatch took place (Olives of some kind? - too small for March Browns)
