No fish caught as I spent my time receiving casting instruction rather than attempting to catch trout. I did however see some trout rising for the yellow mayflies that were emerging.

Due to sunny weather the river was entirely taken up with people, their dogs and their children running in and out of the water, swimming and throwing stones. If it’s sunny do not book.
WUF note: This is advice that is worth considering, especially when thinking of booking beats that are close to towns in hot weather and at weekends. With foreign holidays again mostly off the cards this summer, we expect the levels of unwanted intrusion on riverbanks to be high. Please be aware of this when you are thinking of booking, especially in July and August.

No fish caught. Had one brown trout on at about 5pm. Caught on a shrimp imitation fished mid depth but lost after a brief fight! Tried both nymphs and dry fly. Fish rising most of the afternoon in mid beat near the forms in the main park area.

Generally had a good day and saw my first otter in the wild near to the sewage works.

See you again. Thanks.

A pleasant mornings fishing, from the beach just on the downstream right hand side of the river past Llanforist bridge.
Caught nothing, no bites and seemingly no rises in the location.
Novice fly fisherman, so caught fly on the bushes a few times.
Easy access from free car park, maybe 0.5 mile walk.
Perhaps should have tried more locations, but with chair and equipment, it was easier to stay put.
Stayed at Penyfan farm self catering, not far from Newcastle, about 10 miles from Abergavenny. If closer I might have come back for evening fishing.
Maybe next year
